The Banff Park Museum displays a collection of more than 5,000 specimens of natural history. The  museum was declared a National History Site of Canada in 1985. What makes the Banff Park Museum so important is that the 1903 building is the largest example of early architecture and design inside the park.

The cross-log construction, large windows, and cantilevered truss system demonstrate a building style that would have been popular during the early 1900s. The Banff Park Museum would have most definately been a showcase peice for the park and a local landmark. The building is currently the oldest surviving building that Parks Canada maintains.
