The Beaches is actually a neighbourhood located on the east side of the "Old" City of Toronto. The area contains a mix of commercial, residential, and retail residents and is home to many specialty shops and countless restaurants, cafes, and eateries. The beach itself lies along the shore of Lake Ontario in a single stretch with a long boardwalk spanning almost it's entire length. The beach is further segmented into four sections, Woodbine Beach, Kew Beach, Scarboro Beach, and Balmy Beach.

During the warmer months, the beaches is a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike. Visitors spend the day shopping at the various stores, enjoying meals one of the many sidewalk restaurants, and walking along the boardwalk. In the summer, the beach offers sunbathing, swimming, beach volleyball, rollerblading, cycling, and other outdoor activities.
