Carleton Martello Tower is one of over 200 British built defense towers that exist in the world. Built around 1812, Carleton Martello Tower played an important role in several conflicts up to the Second World War. The Tower was used to protect the coastline of New Brunswick from enemy attacks.

Today, Carleton Martello Tower has been designated a National Historic Site by the government of Canada. The site features several exhibits in both the tower and the visitors centre. The tower contains a fully restored barracks room and powder room. Visitors are also sure to love the spectacular view of the City of Saint John and it's harbour.
