The Cave and Basin National Historic Site of Canada is a popular destination for visitors to Banff National Park. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the cave including it's interior pool and vent hole, the basin, which contains an open air mineral pool as well as interpretive walks in the nearby woods and marches. Something of particular interest can be found in the mats of algae that grow in the mineral pool of the basin. Banff Spring Snails are rare and endangered snails that only exist in this single pool of water in Banff. Nowhere else in the world! Since they are so rare and endangered, please do not disturb their habitat.
