The Distillery District is Toronto's only historic district and is also a national historic site. Founded in 1832 by the Gooderham and Worts Distillery, the largest in the British empire, the area consists of over 40 Victorian era buildings.
In present form, the Distillery District has become one of the top destinations in the City of Toronto. As the first "pedestrian only" village, the brick and stone streets envoke thoughts of European villages and architecture. The beauty and uniqueness of the district even attracts Hollywood and the Distillery District is the number one film location in Canada and the second largest location outside of Hollywood.
Today the Distillery District takes on a SOHO type feel and it is now dedicated to the arts, culture and entertainment.
