Originally constructed in 1922, the Dorset Lookout Tower was part of a network of towers used to protect the valuable timber from the forest fires that would ravage the area. The tiny cabin that was once used by the towermen as a home is still located on the site. Now owned by the Township of Algonquin Highlands, the Dorset Tower is still an extremely popular tourist attraction and over 60,000 vehicles access the site every year.

Once visitors ascend to the top of the 82 foot high tower, a magnificant view with a radius of over 310 square miles is available.
