Up until 1886, the City of Vancouver was one known as Granville. When the City was renamed, a small inlet known as False Creek was named Granville Island. Today, Granville Island is a mecha for restaurants, shopping, and tourism. A host to a variety of buskers (street performers), the area is bursting with life and entertainment throughout the year with performances by jugglers, magicians and musicians.
Passenger ferry service from Granville Island to Downtown Vancouver is provided by two ferry companies, Aquabus and False Creek Ferries.

I had no idea
Hey,
I had no idea that Vancouver used to be called Granville, I live in Alberta and I've been to Vancouver on holidays multiple times. I quite enjoyed gastown and the little restaurants along the way. The Vancouver fireworks on the beach was pretty amazing as well. The next time I'm in Vancouver I will have to check out Granville Island, it sounds really interesting. How long of a ferry ride is it?

Granville Island is connected
Granville Island is connected by land now so you can either take a ferry or drive right onto the island.
