Mount Norquay
Mount Norquay is the smallest of the "Big 3" Ski Mountains found in Banff National Park. During the spring and summer months, Mount Norquay also makes for a mountain climbers dream with it's difficult exposed scramble to the summit. With a peak elevation of 8274 ft, Norquay is a favorite of climbers and also offers a fantastic view of the Town of Banff. Fatalities have occurred on Norquay and rescues are common so it is important to review any and all saftey information when attempting a climb to the summit.
For those who are simply interested in a great hike, Mount Norquay can also be partially ascended quite easily in around 2 hours by following a switchback road. This 6km road can either hiked or driven and will take you to the Norquay Ski area where you will find a breathtaking lookout over Banff.
It is important to note that Mount Norquay is right smack dab in the middle of grizzly and black bear country. Bear sightings are common on this mountain even at the ski area and along the switchback road so care and proper precautions should be taken at all time. If you are unsure, check with Parks Canada for up-to-date information about wildlife in the area.
