New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre

New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre located in Shippagan is the largest public aquarium in the Atlantic Provinces. The Marine Centre has a large collection of more than 100 species of fish and invertebrate as well as a rare Blue Lobster native to the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Atlantic Canadian lakes and rivers.  Microhabitats have been created to simulate the natural habits of the aquatic. Visitors can visit the outdoor touch tank and touch and handle some of the species.  At the Aquarium and Marine Centre, visitors can attend a presentation on the biology of harbour seals. You can watch the seals being fed twice daily, at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre is also a museum. The museum exhibits focuses on the contemporary fishing industry and the gear and equipment required.  Visitors will get to see a life-size wheelhouse, equipped with all the electronic devices including navigation instruments used by fishermen to locate and catch fish.

Nearby located on Portage Island is another permanent exhibit, a lighthouse dating from the 19th century and the Pavillon Aquatique Restaurant.
