The Province House is Canada’s second-oldest seat of government, the birthplace of Confederation and is where the Price Edward Island Legislature, known as the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, has met since 1847.

The Province House was declared a National Historic Site of Canada in 1983 and stands as a landmark in Charlottetown today. The Province House primary role is to protect and interpret the house to Canadians and to showcase the room where the Charlottetown Conference meetings took place. The house still houses the Legislative Assembly on one end of the building for the Province of Prince Edward Island. It is the focal point for political decisions and debates.

Visitors to the Province House can enjoy an audio-visual presentation that is available daily and portrays the events of the Charlottetown Conference. Displays and guided tours are provided to interpret both the Confederation theme and the Provincial Legislative Assembly.
