The Toronto Police Service (TPS) was once known as the Metropolitan Toronto Police and it's history goes back to 1834 when the City of Toronto emerged from the Town of York. One of the oldest modern police forces in the english speaking world, the department is older than the New York City Police Department (Est. 1845) and the Boston Police Department (Est. 1839).
Today, the Toronto Police Service is over 5,700 members strong with an additional 2,500 civilian empoloyees and is responsible for protecting and serving the city of Toronto - one of the largest forces in North America.
The Toronto Police Museum allows visitors to discover more about the history of this world class police department. Occupying over 3,000 square feet in the Police Headquarters, the Museum exhibits artifacts and memoribilia spanning the entire history of the force. The museum is sure to leave visitors with a sense and understanding about policing in the city of Toronto.
