The town of Carmacks is a short two hour drive from Whitehorse on the junction of the North Klondike and Robert Campbell highways. Carmacks is a great jumping off point while exploring the Yukon. While visiting, be sure to walk the Nordenskiold ridge and view the First Nations spirit houses (please be kind and respect their culture) or take a tour through the community or along the boardwalk. After your day of sightseeing, no visit to Carmacks is complete without enjoying a wonderful view of the aurora borealis without the usual big city light pollution.

For the outdoors lover or avid hiker, Carmacks offers several great hikes including the waterfront boardwalk, ridge trail, Coal Mine lake, the Northern Tutchone loop, and Five Finger Rapids. Those interested in geodes be sure to check out Miller's Ridge, Charlie Lake, Plume Agate and Cliffside.
