Whitehern House & Garden

The former home of three generations of the McQuesten family, Whitehern House & Garden is now a National Historic Site of Canada. Located in Hamilton, Ontario, Whitehern is an example of a wealthy industrialist's urban estate.

With influence from three time periods - Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian - the home offers visitors a glimpse into life in Hamilton from 1852 through 1939 for the McQuesten Family. The McQueston's where known for many contributions to the area including the development of the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Queen Elizabeth Way Highway (QEW) and the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, the establishment of McMaster University, and the restorations of Joesph Brant Museum, Fort George, and Old Fort Henry.

Today, visitors are free to explore this historicly rich home with the assistance of a guided tour by costumed staff. The home showcases Victorian period decorations and memorabilia that once influenced life at Whitehern including a depression era kitchen.
