Situated between the British Columbia Legislature and the Fairmont Empress Hotel on Victoria's Inner Harbor, the Royal British Columbia Museum consists of The Province of British Columbia's natural and human history museum and the British Columbia Provincial Archives.

The Royal British Columbia Museum is home to three permanent galleries and several touring exhibitions throughout the year. The museum's natural history collection comprises of over 750,000 specimens and artifacts from BC and nearby regions. The collections are divided into eight subjects: Botany, Palaeontology, Entomology, Herpetology, Mammalogy, Ichthyology, Ornithology, and Invertebrate Zoology. The other permanent galleries support modern history and local First Nations' history.

The museum also supports the IMAX Victoria theatre which showcases educational and mainstream films.
